25 Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad.
A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
The Lord Jehovah hath given me the tongue of them that are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as they that are taught.
Pleasant words are `as' a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; So doth the sweetness of a man's friend `that cometh' of hearty counsel.
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love that I have more abundantly unto you. But if any hath caused sorrow, he hath caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I press not too heavily) to you all. Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was `inflicted' by the many; so that contrariwise ye should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his overmuch sorrow.
A word fitly spoken Is `like' apples of gold in network of silver.
The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?
The heart knoweth its own bitterness; And a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, `Who is' the help of my countenance, and my God.
And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been `beforetime' sad in his presence. And the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid.
