31 Therefore will I howl H3213 for Moab, H4124 and I will cry out H2199 for all Moab; H4124 mine heart shall mourn H1897 for the men H582 of Kirheres. H7025
And they beat down H2040 the cities, H5892 and on every good H2896 piece H2513 of land cast H7993 every man H376 his stone, H68 and filled H4390 it; and they stopped H5640 all the wells H4599 of water, H4325 and felled H5307 all the good H2896 trees: H6086 only in Kirharaseth H7025 left H7604 they the stones H68 thereof; howbeit the slingers H7051 went about H5437 it, and smote H5221 it.
My heart H3820 shall cry out H2199 for Moab; H4124 his fugitives H1280 shall flee unto Zoar, H6820 an heifer H5697 of three years old: H7992 for by the mounting up H4608 of Luhith H3872 with weeping H1065 shall they go it up; H5927 for in the way H1870 of Horonaim H2773 they shall raise up H5782 a cry H2201 of destruction. H7667
Therefore shall Moab H4124 howl H3213 for Moab, H4124 every one shall howl: H3213 for the foundations H808 of Kirhareseth H7025 shall ye mourn; H1897 surely they are stricken. H5218 For the fields H7709 of Heshbon H2809 languish, H535 and the vine H1612 of Sibmah: H7643 the lords H1167 of the heathen H1471 have broken down H1986 the principal plants H8291 thereof, they are come H5060 even unto Jazer, H3270 they wandered H8582 through the wilderness: H4057 her branches H7976 are stretched out, H5203 they are gone over H5674 the sea. H3220 Therefore I will bewail H1058 with the weeping H1065 of Jazer H3270 the vine H1612 of Sibmah: H7643 I will water H7301 thee with my tears, H1832 O Heshbon, H2809 and Elealeh: H500 for the shouting H1959 for thy summer fruits H7019 and for thy harvest H7105 is fallen. H5307 And gladness H8057 is taken away, H622 and joy H1524 out of the plentiful field; H3759 and in the vineyards H3754 there shall be no singing, H7442 neither shall there be shouting: H7321 the treaders H1869 shall tread out H1869 no wine H3196 in their presses; H3342 I have made their vintage shouting H1959 to cease. H7673 Wherefore my bowels H4578 shall sound H1993 like an harp H3658 for Moab, H4124 and mine inward parts H7130 for Kirharesh. H7025

Commentary on Jeremiah 48 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 48
Moab is next set to the bar before Jeremiah the prophet, whom God has constituted judge over nations and kingdoms, from his mouth to receive its doom. Isaiah's predictions concerning Moab had had their accomplishment (we had the predictions Isa. 15 and 16 and the like Amos 2:1), and they were fulfilled when the Assyrians, under Salmanassar, invaded and distressed Moab. But this is a prophecy of the desolations of Moab by the Chaldeans, which were accomplished under Nebuzaradan, about five years after he had destroyed Jerusalem. Here is,
Jer 48:1-13
We may observe in these verses,
Jer 48:14-47
The destruction is here further prophesied of very largely and with a great copiousness and variety of expression, and very pathetically and in moving language, designed not only to awaken them by a national repentance and reformation to prevent the trouble, or by a personal repentance and reformation to prepare for it, but to affect us with the calamitous state of human life, which is liable to such lamentable occurrences, and with the power of God's anger and the terror of his judgments, when he comes forth to contend with a provoking people. In reading this long roll of threatenings, and meditating on the terror of them, it will be of more use to us to keep this in our eye, and to get our hearts thereby possessed with a holy awe of God and of his wrath, than to enquire critically into all the lively figures and metaphors here used.
