59 These things G5023 said he G2036 in G1722 the synagogue, G4864 as he taught G1321 in G1722 Capernaum. G2584
When G3753 the people G3793 therefore G3767 saw G1492 that G3754 Jesus G2424 was G2076 not G3756 there, G1563 neither G3761 his G846 disciples, G3101 they G846 also G2532 took G1684 G1519 shipping, G4143 and G2532 came G2064 to G1519 Capernaum, G2584 seeking for G2212 Jesus. G2424
I have preached H1319 righteousness H6664 in the great H7227 congregation: H6951 lo, I have not refrained H3607 my lips, H8193 O LORD, H3068 thou knowest. H3045 I have not hid H3680 thy righteousness H6666 within H8432 my heart; H3820 I have declared H559 thy faithfulness H530 and thy salvation: H8668 I have not concealed H3582 thy lovingkindness H2617 and thy truth H571 from the great H7227 congregation. H6951
Wisdom H2454 crieth H7442 without; H2351 she uttereth H5414 her voice H6963 in the streets: H7339 She crieth H7121 in the chief place H7218 of concourse, H1993 in the openings H6607 of the gates: H8179 in the city H5892 she uttereth H559 her words, H561 saying, How long, ye simple ones, H6612 will ye love H157 simplicity? H6612 and the scorners H3887 delight H2530 in their scorning, H3944 and fools H3684 hate H8130 knowledge? H1847 Turn H7725 you at my reproof: H8433 behold, I will pour out H5042 my spirit H7307 unto you, I will make known H3045 my words H1697 unto you.
Doth not wisdom H2451 cry? H7121 and understanding H8394 put forth H5414 her voice? H6963 She standeth H5324 in the top H7218 of high places, H4791 by the way H1870 in the places H1004 of the paths. H5410 She crieth H7442 at H3027 the gates, H8179 at the entry H6310 of the city, H7176 at the coming H3996 in at the doors. H6607
And G2532 came down G2718 to G1519 Capernaum, G2584 a city G4172 of Galilee, G1056 and G2532 taught G1321 them G846 G2258 on G1722 the sabbath days. G4521
Jesus G2424 answered G611 him, G846 I G1473 spake G2980 openly G3954 to the world; G2889 I G1473 ever G3842 taught G1321 in G1722 the synagogue, G4864 and G2532 in G1722 the temple, G2411 whither G3699 the Jews G2453 always G3842 resort; G4905 and G2532 in G1722 secret G2927 have I said G2980 nothing. Commentary on John 6 Matthew Henry Commentary
Chapter 6
In this chapter we have,
Jhn 6:1-14
We have here an account of Christ's feeding five thousand men with five loaves and two fishes, which miracle is in this respect remarkable, that it is the only passage of the actions of Christ's life that is recorded by all the four evangelists. John, who does not usually relate what had been recorded by those who wrote before him, yet relates this, because of the reference the following discourse has to it. Observe,
Jhn 6:15-21
Here is,
Jhn 6:22-27
In these verses we have,
Jhn 6:28-59
Whether this conference was with the Capernaites, in whose synagogue Christ now was, or with those who came from the other side of the sea, is not certain nor material; however, it is an instance of Christ's condescension that he gave them leave to ask him questions, and did not resent the interruption as an affront, no, not from his common hearers, though not his immediate followers. Those that would be apt to teach must be swift to hear, and study to answer. It is the wisdom of teachers, when they are asked even impertinent unprofitable questions, thence to take occasion to answer in that which is profitable, that the question may be rejected, but not the request. Now,
Jhn 6:60-71
We have here an account of the effects of Christ's discourse. Some were offended and others edified by it; some driven from him and others brought nearer to him.
